1914 - While it makes up a major part of his fame, Alec Guinness proved his amazing acting talent goes beyond the part he played in George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy. Guinness is mainly known for his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi but has done a bunch of different roles in a wide variety of genres. On the 2nd of April, we celebrate the British actor's birthday in 1914.
Guinness was reluctant to play the role of Obi-Wan. In a letter to a friend, he stated his uncertainty in taking the part and considered it while describing the script as: 'Fairy-tale rubbish but could be interesting perhaps.'
Because there was so much ado about the space franchise, Alec Guinness felt his other work got underappreciated by the big audience, because people only saw him as the characteristic lightsaber-wielding Obi-Wan.
Guinness also portrayed John Le Carre's famous spy George Smiley in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and played in famous pieces like Oliver Twist, Scrooge and Hamlet. Alec won an Oscar for his outstanding acting in The Bridge on the River Kwai and many other prizes. All his on-screen performances are stunning and he will not be easily forgotten; that would have to happen by use of force.
360 trivial fact
Alec forgot co-actor Harrison Ford's name in the letter to his friend: ''...Mark Hamill and Tennyson (that can't be right) Ford. Ellison (? – No! –) well, a rangy, languid young man who is probably intelligent and amusing.''
'Power is the great aphrodisiac'

An exception being Henry Kissinger; who was born in Germany on the 27th of May in 1923 as Heinz Alfred Kissinger. He definitely has a story to tell. Read More >>
Wild West Wayne

However, the sight of his acting was captivating enough to have people on the edge of their seats. Born as Marion Robert Morrison, on the 26th of May in 1907, the boy from Iowa became known as actor John Wayne. His acting career was pretty much limited to Westerns, but those wide wild areas and the stories in them are pretty limitless. Read More >>
