1965 -

'The people's right to change what doesn’t work is one of the greatest principles of our system of government.’ A quote from America’s 37th president, Richard Nixon. He was the president that ended created the Environmental Protection Agency, but also the star player in the Watergate Scandal. Today is de day Nixon was elected in 1965.

Talented but poor
Nixon was born January 9, 1913 into a poor family. His mother was a devout Quaker. Richard was an obvious talented boy, but his parents could only afford to take him to the local Quaker school, Whittier College. He was offered a scholarship for Harvard, but refused. He could not be missed at home. Later he got another scholarship and went to Duke University School of Law.

Vietnam War
Lots of historical events happened during Nixon’s term. Everybody remembers events like the first man on the moon and the ending of the Vietnam War. However, Nixon also surprised the world by going to Communist China. He wanted to establish diplomatic relations although China fought U.S. forces in the Korean War. Nixon’s visit was the beginning of a better relationship among the two worlds.

360 trivial fact
Nixon loved to bowl. He was caught bowling a few frames dressed in his suit as well. He was such a bowling-lover, that he built another one-lane bowling alley in the basement in the White House, in addition to the alley that was already there.
