1990 -

Today in 1990, the German producer Frank Farian held a press conference and confessed that the hit-duo Milli Vanilli didnít actually sing any of the vocals heard on their records. Milli Vanilli was an R&B duo from Munich and sold millions of records in the late 1980ís. Their most popular song was Girl You Know Itís True, for which they received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

The right looks
The hit song was already recorded before the two fake singers, Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, were contracted by Frank Farian. A perfect song, but the artists didnít have the right looks according to the producer. So Pilatus and Morvan were recruited. However, they never sang a note on the recording and performed on stage only lip-synching. Questions were asked, because of their poor English in interviews. Nevertheless, nobody committed it wasnít them singing.

Growing public questioning
In 1989, during a performance on MTV, the recording of a song jammed and skipped. Pilatus and Morvan tried to hide the mistake and kept on dancing and lip-synching. After a few minutes they ran offstage. Because of growing public questioning, Farian confessed Morvan and Pilatus didnít sing on the album.

360 Trivial fact
Not long before the truth came out, Pilatus was still quite full of himself. He was quoted in Time Magazine proclaiming himself to be the new Elvis, because Milli Vanilli was more talented musically than Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger.
