1990 -

On this day, 1990, Malcolm Forbes died of a heart attack. Forbes was perhaps best known as the publisher of Forbes magazine. Malcolm lived a luxurious life and was an avid promoter of capitalism. He collected many objects, from homes to aircrafts and art to motorcycles.

Malcolm’s expensive collection
Malcolm also collected Fabergé eggs. These are jewelled eggs, of which most were made under supervision of Peter Fabergé. In total 50 were made, 43 of which still exist. Each egg costs at least 1 million dollars. Forbes had a total of nine eggs and 180 other Fabergé objects. This entire collection was bought for over 100 million dollars.

Forbes’ secret
After Forbes’s death the magazine OutWeek outed Malcolm Forbes as a gay man. Malcolm managed to hide this fact for all his life. Which, at the time, begged the question: “is our society that repressive that even all-powerful men have to hide their sexuality”. This also lead to critique on the media on helping Forbes hide this secret, even in death. With the New York times referring to him as a "famous, deceased millionaire".

360 trivial fact
Every year Forbes magazine publishes the Forbes 400, these are the 400 richest people on earth. In the year 1990 Forbes allegedly excluded Donald Trump from this list. This would be because Trump didn’t allow Forbes to take "two young men who appeared to be well under the legal drinking age" into one of Trump’s bars.
