1940 -

Today it’s Sir Cliff Richard’s birthday. The British pop singer was born October 14, 1940 in British India as Harry Rodger Webb. Little did anyone know back then, there would be such a thing as ‘Cliff Hysteria’; Girls screaming for Cliff’s attention.

His father gave the young Harry his first guitar at 16 and Harry became an artist. Not much later he was the lead singer of a rock and roll band The Drifters that would become ‘The Shadows’. Their first single ‘Move it’, was an instant success. It reached No. 2 in the British charts. A mega star was born.

From this moment on, Cliff’s career took off. He scored hits like ‘Bachelor Boy’ ‘Congratulations’ and ‘Living doll’. He startled his fans a bit when he became an active Christian in the mid 60’s. Many of his fans feared the end of his career as a pop star. But there was no need to fear. Cliff kept standing as an artist next to Elvis Presley and The Beatles. He scored numerous No.1 hits, presented his 100th album in 2013, developed his own perfumes and starred as an actor. He now is one of the bestselling artists in the UK. No wonder he was rewarded for all this by the queen and became a knight.
