1974 -

The Swedish Agnetha, Björn, Anni-Frid and Benny wanted to amaze people with their music and they did. The quartet had their massive breakthrough at the European Song Contest on the 16th of November in 1974. From that moment on, their fame started skyrocketing. Using their initials to create the band's catchy name, ABBA was born.

Waterloo
Their first try at entering the European song contest was a bit of a failure, but ABBA didn't retreat and came back the year after, blowing away the big and divided public with their glamorous song ''Waterloo'', which hit the charts immediately. ABBA won the contest and their popularity grew exponentially.

Money, Money, Money
ABBA has sold millions of albums and singles. They are in third position for selling the most records, right behind The Beatles and Elvis. They had become famous in Europe, but it took some time for the other continents to catch up. Due to successful marketing strategies, they eventually became well known in the USA, Australia and South Africa.

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
Remarkable is that ABBA didn't only consist out of four singers; the group was at the same time a unity of two married couples. Even though the group separated in 1983, ABBA is still known all over the globe and won't fade out anytime soon.

360 trivial fact
The four stars weren't always known as 'ABBA'. In the band's early years, they were known as 'Festfolk', which is Swedish for 'party people'.
